Northern Beaches Council has developed a handy one-stop resource centre to help teachers plan classroom activities on subjects ranging from the environment, waste education, road safety and arts and culture.

The ‘Teacher’s Hub’ on Council’s website is designed to equip teachers with inspiring and interactive resources to stimulate student interest in a diverse range of subjects.

The website also contains a series of programs designed specifically for pre-school, primary and high school students at Council’s Coastal Environment Centre at Narrabeen that are linked to curriculum outcomes.

Mayor Michael Regan said the idea to create the website came from a realisation that many of Council’s facilities already provide a range of activities for schoolchildren.

“We are really pleased to provide a one-stop-shop where teachers can find all of the activities and facilities Council has on offer.

“Find out about our great environmental programs, our tailor-made waste education for your school; and ways to inspire your students' creativity with excursions to Glen Street Theatre and the Manly Art Gallery & Museum,” Mayor Regan said.

“There is nothing quite like experiencing the real thing to enhance the learning process, and we have many excursion ideas for students to take their studies out of the classroom.

“For example, the Coastal Environment centre fosters close connections and an intimate understanding of our local environment through hands-on learning.

“And our libraries offer students personalised homework help and revision resources as well as regular events like reading groups and open mic nights. We also have annual events like the HSC lock-ins, reading challenges and writing competitions.”

Council also comes to the classroom with visits by experts from the Coastal Environment Centre to give hands-on learning sessions about local habitat and sustainability programs such as composting, worm farming, water and energy use.

Council’s waste educators also offer a range of engaging programs on-site at schools about how to avoid waste and to recycle more.

Details about these on-site school programs and also information about educational excursions to Council’s facilities can be found at the Teacher's Hub
