A redeveloped open space to complement the theatre and library will create a new jewel in the crown for this area of the Northern Beaches.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Council was now seeking input into the proposed Glen Street Open Space Masterplan which seeks to maximise existing community facilities in Belrose and Frenchs Forest.

“One of our first priorities as a new Council has been to identify and remedy critical gaps in the recreational infrastructure of the Northern Beaches.

“Council is building a new inclusive playground and synthetic playing fields at Lionel Watts Reserve to complement the new library and associated outdoor precinct at Glen Street.

“We have an opportunity to create a highly valued open space for now and well into the future.

“Council has taken the opportunity to masterplan the entire site to ensure that the significant new recreational assets work harmoniously and complement existing infrastructure and deliver social, recreational and environmental benefits,” Mayor Regan said.

Key features of the draft masterplan include

  • Dual synthetic sportsfield
  • Inclusive regional playground
  • New skate park
  • An accessible path network including fitness trail
  • Increased car parking
  • Improvements to the off leash dog area – including a small dog area
  • Youth facilities

Council will place the draft plan on public exhibition in January and February, with details to be announced.
