The well-loved Freshwater foreshore will receive a major recreational revitalisation with key features including open space connected by a safe path network, and improved facilities to enjoy the natural environment.

Mayor Michael Regan said the Freshwater Coastal Open Space Masterplan, adopted at Council’s Meeting on Tuesday 22 May, reflects a true collaboration between Council and the community.

“The Freshwater Coastal Open Space Masterplan has been tailored progressively over three stages of consultation to meet community needs.

“Works carried out under the Masterplan will deliver welcoming, inclusive and highly useable recreational space for residents and visitors alike,’ Mayor Regan said.

The Masterplan will improve the open space for the benefit of the community and provide better and more accessible links to allow people of all abilities to enjoy the beautiful natural environment in the area.

“Aspects of the Masterplan have been amended to align with community feedback including the decision to maintain open space between Gore Street and Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club,” Mayor Regan said.

Major works on the car park and playground in the beach area have been scheduled to commence in 2021 with other actions being implemented as funding becomes available.

The Masterplan was adopted with an amendment to ensure community consultation will be ongoing through each phase of implementation.
