Northern Beaches Council is providing a series of workshops for young people, focusing on topical issues which affect them.

Under the title Feed Your Mind, the first workshop Managing Mental Health is scheduled for Tuesday 5 June, 6-8pm at Avalon Annexe.

Partnering with the newly opened Avalon Youth Hub, this workshop takes a holistic approach to managing stress, anxiety and depression by teaching the benefits of healthy food and lifestyle in managing these problems.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Council was very pleased to be supporting young people across the whole Northern Beaches area.

“In March, we announced a $90,000 grant a year for two years to the Burdekin Association to establish the Avalon Youth Hub, a partner in the Feed Your Mind workshops.

“The Youth Hub is a safe place for young people and their families to go for help on a wide range of issues and concerns. They provide a valuable service at the northern end of the peninsula, filling a gap in mental health services in the region.” Mayor Regan said

It’s the third year the workshops have been running with the sessions from the previous two years focussed on HSC students. This year, the workshops are open to young people aged 14 to 24 with parents or guardians welcome to attend.

The second workshop Secret Girls Business Workshop is on Tuesday 19 June, 6 to 8pm at YOYO’s Youth Centre, Frenchs Forest.

This workshop teaches the benefits of healthy food and lifestyle for managing hormones and understanding changes in body and skin.

Layla Metcalfe is the facilitator of both workshops, a Naturopath and Clinical Nutritionist with a Wellness and lifestyle coaching clinic.
