As part of Manly Arts Festival, Northern Beaches Council is giving local artists a chance to accelerate their careers and expand their creative networks.

Council General Manager Planning, Place and Community David Kerr said the free Saturday 9 September event, which is being held at Eramboo Artist Environment, is a chance for local artists to learn how to apply for – and win – artist residencies.

“Residency programs are a wonderful opportunity for artists to create new works in an inspiring, collaborative and supportive environment.

“Art holds an important place in the culture of the Northern Beaches, and we are committed to offering ongoing opportunities and support to local creatives,” Mr Kerr said.

Event panel members are innovators in their art and design fields and have participated in local, national and international residency programs. They will discuss how residency experiences have informed their creative development and share tips on lodging successful applications.

Out-of-area panel members include Pat Grant, graphic novelist and co-founder of the Comic Art Workshop residency program; and Mimi Kelly, a photomedia artist who has completed residencies at home and abroad, including in the Czech Republic and Paris.

Home-grown talent, sound and performance artist Imogen Cranna and environmental artist Leesa Knights were the 2014 Eramboo / Northern Beaches Council and the 2015 Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre artists in residence respectively.

Bookings are essential by Thursday 31 August. Visit northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au. Those who attend the event are welcome to stay afterwards for an Eramboo exhibition opening.

Submissions for local artist residency programs including those offered by Eramboo / Northern Beaches Council; and Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre will open later this year.
