A poignant, riotous, glamorous and ultimately triumphant exploration of one woman’s story, RED is coming to Glen Street Theatre from 8 – 9 March.

Is she mad? Is she immoral? Or is she simply misbehaving? RED is an unforgettable, hilarious and soul-baring autobiographical journey through illness and recovery. Blending dance, film, spoken word and song, this remarkable show featuring the award-winning Liz Lea will make you laugh and cry.

The production was shaped by performer Liz Lea’s battle with endometriosis, a painful medical condition of the reproductive organs affecting one in 10 women worldwide. Initially, Lea ignored the signs of her condition and continued to push herself as a dancer performing around the world until her illness caught up with her.

This production is not just about Lea’s disease as the work is bigger than just one person. The audience will look through her lens as she addresses universal themes during her personal illness and recovery.

Liz Lea’s said if at least one person in the audience reflects on their general self-care, then she has achieved her aim.

“For 20 years I had an illness I was not aware of and for those 20 years I travelled and toured, performed and created. That illness did not define me or my life; however, it has defined my future.

“My journey played out onstage and I gave away my future for the stage, all without my knowledge. Best I address some of that on a stage.” Ms Lea said.

RED has already toured to Canberra, Sydney, Hobart and internationally to Liverpool in the UK with further touring scheduled for 2019 including Glen Street Theatre.

Performer Liz Lea was the recipient of the 2017 ACT Artist of the Year Award and a 2017 Australian Dance Award. RED contains choreography from renowned Australian choreographers including Vicki van Hout, Virginia Ferris, Martin del Amo and Liz Lea herself.
