Northern Beaches Council was able to mobilise quickly to clean up storm damage on the weekend and has put on extra waste services to help residents remove storm debris.

Deputy General Manager Ben Taylor said Council assisted State Emergency Services and members of the community to clear roads immediately after the storms and has already begun making repairs and removing debris from nature strips and reserves.

“With the additional resources available to us as a larger Council we were able to quickly mobilise staff and assist emergency services by removing trees and debris from roads.

“Our immediate concern was for Newport, Avalon, Clareville, Whale Beach, Palm Beach and our off shore communities that were heavily impacted by flash flooding, fallen trees and power black outs, but there was also isolated reports from Killarney Heights and Manly, which we also assisted with,’ Mr Taylor said.

Northern Beaches Council is undertaking an extra green waste collection in affected areas from Avalon to Palm Beach.

Council is also encouraging other residents significantly impacted to contact its Customer Service Centres or call 9970 1111 by Friday if they require assistance to remove green waste caused by the storms.
