Youth Week has something for everyone this year and includes the celebration of 20 years of the local Northern Composure Band Competition.

Organised by young people and for young people, Youth Week provides an opportunity for Northern Beaches locals aged 12-25 years to share ideas, attend live events and showcase talent.

Running from 20 to 30 April, this year Council has developed a comprehensive program together with several community organisations with activities including a boxing and mentoring workshop, trivia hosted by Council’s Youth Advisory Group, and Have Your Say Day organised by the Beaches Leadership Team.

Mayor Michael Regan said Council is working closely with several local youth service providers to develop a diverse program and celebration with wide appeal.

“Council is a proud supporter of NSW Youth Week, and while it officially runs from 20-30 April, we have so many activities planned we have extended our program over April and May to fit them all in.

“The bumper program features a range of activities, including sports, arts, music, fitness and leisure activities, that all fit into this year’s theme Connect. Participate. Celebrate.

“Youth Week is a great chance for everyone to have fun and celebrate young people’s contribution to our community. I am always excited to see what great new bands Northern Composure brings each year too,” Mayor Regan said.

The first event to kick off this year’s celebrations on the Northern Beaches is Council’s Bags to Riches Markets on 1 April at Walter Gors Park in Dee Why.

Rounding out the month is the 20th Anniversary of Northern Composure band competition on 28 April at PCYC in Dee Why. Here finalists will battle it out on stage for top spots and prizes in a $10,000 prize pool.

Forming a Youth Week centrepiece each year, Northern Composure is the largest and longest-running youth band competition on the Beaches that offers musicians local exposure, as well as priceless on-stage performance time.
