Northern Beaches Council is delivering the next stage of revitalising Dee Why’s Town Centre with work on a new, greener Redman Road Plaza to start next week.

Council Deputy General Manager Ben Taylor said the $2.5 million upgrade of the plaza will bring the western side of Pittwater Road to life.

“By creating an attractive, must-visit location this project will transform Redman Road into a welcoming and vibrant pedestrian plaza that will generate local investment and promote social interaction.

“The new plaza has received very strong community support and I would like to thank everyone who contributed their feedback to the new streetscape designs,” Mr Taylor said.

The cul-de-sac at the end of Redman Road is underutilised and currently does not take advantage of its central location. It was identified as a key site to provide the community with a more friendly open space, as part of the award-winning Dee Why Town Centre Masterplan.

Key features of the Redman Road Plaza include:

  • new comfortable seating areas
  • a water feature
  • hanging gardens and planters
  • integrated public art and a
  • suspended lighting system for added night time ambience and security

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday 6 March weather permitting and will take around six months to complete. Construction is being carried out by Sydney company Landscape Solutions.

Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained whilst the plaza section of Redman Road is closed.
