Northern Beaches Council has released a draft masterplan for Brookvale to protect and enhance the existing employment lands and allow more mixed use development around the town centre to leverage the incoming B-Line bus stop.

Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Ferguson said changing controls to allow more small bars, restaurants and cafes will allow a more vibrant precinct to emerge in the eastern area of the town centre and add to the night time economy.

“Brookvale provides a vital economic and employment role for the Northern Beaches and this plan would enhance and improve that function as well as allowing development that encourages new opportunities like bars and micro-breweries, and more residential accommodation, while still retaining and promoting existing and new economic applications.

“It would allow Brookvale to become an attractive destination for residents and visitors by enhancing entertainment options while at the same time retaining and increasing employment,” Mr Ferguson said.

Warringah Mall would be supported to retain its function as a major retail centre and employer for the Northern Beaches.

New residential development up to six storeys would have a target of 10 per cent affordable rental housing to help provide accommodation for key workers.

“This plan will guide future development within Brookvale as well as any land use changes to ensure that it can function as a vibrant, sustainable employment focussed centre,” Mr Ferguson said.

The plan will be placed on public exhibition for comment at a later date.
