It could well be billed the ‘Oscars Night’ for aspiring young Northern Beaches filmmakers.

After taking up the challenge last month to produce a short film in just 24 hours, the winners will be announced in a Halloween-themed Awards Ceremony at Hoyts Warringah Mall, this Sunday 28 October.

Now in its 17th year, Northern Beaches Council’s 24/7 Youth Film Festival gives young people aged 12 – 24 years just 24 hours to make a seven minute film.

All short films submitted in the 24 hour time period were screened on 16 and 17 October at Hoyts Warringah Mall.

At the Awards Night this Sunday, the top 10 short films will be screened and winners announced.

Categories include Best Film, Best U/18 Film, People’s Choice, Best Male and Female Actor Awards, Best Script, Best Sound and Editing and Best Cinematography.

Audience participants will also be in the running to win the title of Halloween-themed best dressed.

Mayor Michael Regan said the competition showcased some amazing film maker talent on the Northern Beaches.

“Come along this Sunday and see how creative, resourceful and innovative our young people are. Their work is very inspiring. You won’t be disappointed.”

Entry is free and the event begins at Hoyts Warringah Mall, Cinema 9 at 6pm. The first 100 people will receive a limited edition 2018 Youth Film Festival t-shirt.
