Brookvale-based Venezuelan artist Miguel Gonzalez was the guest of honour at Northern Beaches Council’s public art launch at Mona Vale skate park on Thursday 9 March.

Skaters from five year olds to adults were there in force as the community celebrated the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the new multi-ramp skate park, located at Pittwater Road, Mona Vale opposite the Mona Vale shops.

Northern Beaches Council’s General Manager Mark Ferguson said local skaters collaborated with Miguel to design the work installed on the side of the skate ramp, which includes a little boy in a cape to represent possibilities - in the skate park it feels possible to fly.

“Miguel Gonzalez is an outstanding artist whose work is featured at other public venues not just in Sydney but across Australia.

“These two murals are testament not just to Miguel’s talent and creativity but also his ability to translate the aspirations of the skaters.

“When we opened the bigger and improved Mona Vale skate park last year, we were confident the community would love it and I’m sure everyone who sees it will agree the art work brings the whole place to life.” Mr Ferguson said.
