Northern Beaches Council is calling on organisations and community groups to apply for a pool of $250,000 in grants to help stage community events for 2020/21.

Grants ranging from $500 to $50,000 and fee waivers are now available to support a range of diverse and exciting events across the Northern Beaches.

Mayor Michael Regan said community events inspire a sense of pride and bonding among residents, as well as providing a boost to the local economy.

“We have a proud history of hosting popular and entertaining events, and we are always looking for innovative events to run throughout the year to complement Council’s already rich schedule of annual events,” Mayor Regan said.

Events that showcase local talent, generate new experiences, promote the Northern Beaches as a go-to destination and build an awareness of community and place are central aims of grants.

This could be through developing new events or renewing current events.

Currently, community events have been heavily impacted while COVID-19 pandemic restrictions are in place. Council are looking to support the industry through grants and sponsorships when it is safe to do so.

Events will need to meet state health orders and COVID-19 Safety plans before final approval will be given.

The first round of events grants applications are now open until 31 August, 2020.
