Northern Beaches Council has released its annual report for the 2022/23 financial year highlighting a year of growth, innovation, and milestone achievements across various areas.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the report details Council’s achievements towards the objectives and performance targets contained in the Delivery Program 2022-2026.
“Our commitment to the community remains unwavering. This year has been one of recovery, optimism and teamwork working closely with the community and local businesses to provide efficient services and priority projects to benefit everyone.
“Council delivered $82 million in capital works this year,including an investment of over $15 million to provide 10.3km of road resurfacing, 5km of new footpaths, 4.1km of shared paths and 1.6km of footpath renewals.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg with several major capital works being completed which provide direct benefit to the community including the new Long Reef Surf Life Saving club, a new pedestrian bridge over Narrabeen Lagoon, a new Marine Rescue Headquarters at Bayview and a new Rural Fire Service Brigade Building at Duffy’s Forest to support the great work our volunteers do.
“Our outstanding efforts have been recognised with several prestigious awards and accolades throughout the year the most notable being the AR Bluett Memorial Award by Local Government NSW which is described as the pinnacle of local government. This recognition underscores our dedication to excellence and makes us the most progressive council in the State – no mean feat!”
Key highlights Include:
- Improvements to our transport network with 10.3 km of road resurfaced, 6.6km of new and renewed footpaths, 4.1km of new shared paths and a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over Narrabeen Lagoon.
- New buildings for Long Reef Surf Life Saving Club, Duffys Forest Rural Fire Service Brigade and Marine Rescue Headquarters at Broken Bay.
- Working with the community to plan for the future and adopting key strategies and plans including the Youth Voice Action Plan 2028 – Shaping the Beaches Future, Economic Development Strategy - Business on the Beaches, Northern Beaches Resilience Strategy – Withstand. Adapt. Thrive and Community Engagement Policy and Community Engagement Strategy.
- Receiving 23 industry awards including the AR Bluett Memorial Award from Local Government NSW demonstrating the depth and capability of our workforce.
- Remaining committed to our goal to achieve a 30 percent reduction in vehicle emissions by 2038 by installing 20 additional EV charging stations, positioning Northern Beaches as one of the fastest-growing areas for EV adoption, contributing to a more sustainable future.
“With a strong foundation laid by the successes of 2022/23, we are poised to continue our growth trajectory and make an even greater impact in the year ahead,” Mayor Heins said.
