What makes the Northern Beaches a good place to live? And how do we know if things are getting better? Our Community Wellbeing Framework helps us answer those questions with evidence rather than guesswork.

We developed the framework in 2022 to measure and monitor the wellbeing of our community. It looks at the things we can count, and at how residents say they actually experience life here.

What the framework looks at

The framework is built around these areas of wellbeing:

  • Healthy, covering physical and mental health and the natural environment that supports it
  • Liveable, covering feeling safe, having things to do and being able to afford to stay
  • Participatory, covering how people take part in the economic and social life of the area
  • Connected, covering getting around, finding help and the social ties between people.

How we use it

To understand how residents experience wellbeing, we conduct a Community Views survey every 2 years. It's an independent community survey that we can repeat over time, so we can see what's changing.

We share the results in our State of Wellbeing reports. They help us understand what affects wellbeing on the Northern Beaches, and show where we're doing well and where we need to improve.
