Sam made his debut at the 2009 Freestyle Skiing World Cup for Moguls and in the 2012/13 World Cup season he placed eighth in Inawashiro, Japan.

In 2013 he finished sixth in the Dual Moguls in Voss Norway, his career international best. He also represented Australia in the Sochi 2014 Olympics, placing 24th.
