Kynan represented Australian at the London 2012 Olympics following 12 years of working towards to secure his Olympic selection. He competed in the Canoe Slalom Men’s Canoe Single (MC1) placing sixth and Men’s C2.

Kynan continued to represent Australia at the World Championships and World Cup until 2015. 

Kynan undertook most of his training in the Northern Beaches, often using the surf around Long Reef and Dee Why as a substitute for whitewater in preparation for international competition.
