Oceans Swims Series Photographic Exhibition
Thursday 4 January – Wednesday 15 February at Mona Vale Library
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Big Swim, this photographic exhibition showcases a collection of images from the Ocean Swims Series held by Palm Beach, Whale Beach, Avalon, Bilgola, Newport and Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Clubs.
In 1974, the Captain of the Whale Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Bob Lynch, came up with the idea of The Big Swim to raise much needed funds for the club. 48 brave people completed the swim from Palm Beach to Whale Beach, and it has continued to grow in popularity every year since.
Since then, other Northern Beaches surf lifesaving clubs have started their own ocean swims, collectively known as the Ocean Swims Series.
The Ocean Swims Series has been supported through the Northern Beaches Council Event Grants and Sponsorship Program.
