'Within the pages of this book

You may discover, if you look

Beyond the spell of written words,

A hidden land of beasts and birds.'

Northern Beaches Libraries are very excited to introduce Animalia Education for Libraries, an interactive literacy application based on Animalia, the iconic picture book by Graeme Base. If you aren't aware, Animalia, as described in the book, is a stunning series of images that depict an incredible fantasy world inhabited by familiar animals in unfamiliar situations.

This resource takes kids of all ages on a learning adventure through one of the world's most beloved picture books. They will meet all of the characters along the way, from the armoured armadillos to the zany zebras, as they help navigate children through the activities.

Animalia Education also features a new animated picture story, The ABC of Flying. Just like the book, as you travel from A to Z, each page will reveal a wealth of hidden objects and ideas that begin with the letter from that page. You can also read the original Animalia in digital format or listen as the animals read it for you.

To access Animalia Education, you need to download the app from your device's app store:

Please note that this application is not available for iPhone.

To access the activities, log in with your library card number and proceed to download each activity when connected to Wi-fi. This is done by tapping on each animal and selecting 'download'. Once they are downloaded on your device, you will not need to be online to complete them.

Animalia Education for Libraries can also be utilised in the classroom! Schools do not need a separate subscription and can access the content through us with a library card number. Please contact us if you would like more information.

We hope you have fun exploring the world of Animalia. If you are having trouble accessing the application, please contact us.
