Local artist Marion has lived on Sydney’s Northern Beaches for over 20 years and holds a deep fascination with the ocean - both above and below the surface.
Through her lens, Immersed captures the dynamic interplay between the raw power of the ocean and the quiet resilience of the South Curl Curl Rockpool. To capture the series, Marion had to be fully submerged in the rockpool, hand-holding a waterproof camera as waves crashed over her.
Viewers are invited to contemplate the fragile balance between power, destruction, and creation - the ebb and flow of life - and the subtle beauty found in moments of transition. The waves are more than a force of nature - they are a source of life, energy, and transformation, continuously reshaping the coastal landscape.
These photographs are all about timing. They rely on a rare combination of elements: a clear blue sky to bring out the depth of colour, a high tide to ensure the waves are powerful enough to surge over the pool’s edge. And when the moment comes, there's only time for a single shot as the wave breaks over.
