Work is underway on the new amenities block on Marine Parade, Manly, after the facilities were washed away in the storms of June last year.

Northern Beaches Council General Manager Environment & Infrastructure Ben Taylor said Marine Parade is an iconic location and the new facilities will improve the visitor experience for the hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists who enjoy the area.

"The new amenities block will provide a more accessible and family friendly facility that will cater to the needs of the community in this environmentally sensitive area," Mr Taylor said.

The new block will have two toilets, two change rooms, a family friendly accessible bathroom with a shower and a water refill station. As part of the replacement, Council is also seeking to make the new amenities block more storm-tolerant.

There will be some inconvenience to the public while work is carried out, however pedestrian access along Marine Parade will be maintained during these works.

Work is expected to be completed in time for the summer season.

This area will again be enhanced by the remade Oceanides sculpture by Helen Leete which was also damaged during the storm of June 2016. It is expected that the new sculpture will be installed within weeks.
