Northern Beaches Council is calling on the local community to share their experiences and ideas on how Council can make life easier for people living with disability.

Mayor Michael Regan said Council was developing its next Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) and was looking for community input to help shape the plan.

"This plan outlines what Council intends to do over the next four years to make sure people with disability feel included and can participate fully in their local community.

"Whether you are a person living with disability, a person with caring responsibilities, a service provider or an interested community member, we want to hear from you.

"Council is committed to providing accessible and inclusive services, infrastructure and opportunities for all people on the Northern Beaches.

"We want to know what Council can do to help those with disability feel more included in the community; to make it easier to get around, to work or volunteer, and ways we can better deliver services and communicate with you.

“We are committed to going further than just complying with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and what we achieved through the implementation of the first DIAP 2017 in order to break down attitudinal, physical, communication and social barriers in our community.”

Council hopes to have a draft DIAP 2022-2026 on public exhibition in March 2022 to gather community feedback to inform the final plan. The final DIAP will be presented to Council for endorsement by Council in June 2022.

The local community is encouraged to share ideas and experiences to help shape the draft DIAP plan by 7 November.
