If you’re planning to build or renovate, or just have an interest in sustainable building design, be informed and inspired at the free Building Sustainable Homes information night.

Northern Beaches Council General Manager Environment & Infrastructure Ben Taylor said the 21 September Council initiative was designed to support home builders and renovators considering sustainable options.

“Building Sustainable Homes is targeted at home builders and renovators interested in learning about the financial and environmental benefits of sustainable design.

“The goal is to reduce reliance on non-renewable resources and minimise home running costs in the local community,” Mr Taylor said.

Sustainability professionals will offer expert advice and information at the two-hour event, which also includes a Q&A session.

Dick Clarke, Principal at Envirotecture Eco Architects, will explain how to include effective design principles when planning and building. For example, quality insulation options can offer significant cost-savings by reducing electricity required for heating and cooling.

Evan Darmanin from ChargeWorks will provide information on cost-effective alternative energy solutions such as solar battery systems that store energy for use in peak times when on-grid prices are more expensive.

Building Sustainable Homes will be held at Manly Town Hall. Bookings are essential via northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au.
