Northern Beaches Council is throwing its weight behind a campaign to stop drivers of vehicles with uncovered loads littering our roads, bushland and beaches.

Preaching the message 'tarp it, tuck it & tie it tight', the Cover Your Load campaign runs until mid-December, focussing on the Northern Beaches.

The campaign is jointly supported by Council, Roads and Maritime Services, the Police, and Kimbriki and Belrose Resource Recovery Centres.

Northern Beaches Council General Manager, Mark Ferguson said the main target is drivers with uncovered loads using Kimbriki and Belrose Resource Recovery Centres.

"Individual drivers of vehicles with uncovered loads risk a $750 fine and corporations, a $1,500 fine," Mr Ferguson said.

"Also any material, including sand, soil, garden clippings and small rubbish, that flies off or drops from a vehicle or trailer is littering and is illegal.

"Litter damages our waterways, beaches, bushland and wildlife," he said.

If you see someone littering from their vehicle you can report them to the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA). Fines from $250 can be issued from your report. Visit: epa.nsw.gov.au/heytosser.

This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
