Last night Councillor Candy Bingham was re-elected as Deputy Mayor of Northern Beaches Council, her third time in the role.

The election was precipitated by the postponement of the Local Government elections from 4 September 2021 to 4 December 2021 due to COVID-19. The term of the previous Deputy Mayor was due to expire on 4 September.

Mayor Michael Regan said it made sense for Councillor Bingham, who represents the Manly Ward, to continue in her role until the end of the current Council term.

“Councillor Bingham brings a depth of experience to the role and is a strong advocate for her local community, working well with all Councillors and staff.

“She has been doing a great job in her role as Deputy Mayor and I am pleased she will continue on through to the end of this Council term.”

Cr Bingham will hold the position until the end of the Council term or up to a period of no more than one year to allow for any further postponements to local government elections.
