Councillor Michael Regan was re-elected Mayor and Councillor Candy Bingham elected Deputy Mayor at a meeting of the elected Council last night.

The elections were triggered by the end of the two year term of the elected Mayor and one year for the Deputy Mayor.

The positions are elected by a majority vote of the 15 elected Councillors.

Both positions will be held until 11 September 2020 when the NSW Government will hold a general Council election.

Mayor Michael Regan acknowledged the work of the former Deputy Mayor Sue Heins and said he was honoured to accept the role for another twelve months.

“I thank my colleagues for their confidence to elect me as Mayor for another term,” he said.

“It is both an honour and privilege to serve the great community of the Northern Beaches.

“I am proud of how much we have done already but there is still so much to do and I look forward to continuing to work with new Deputy Mayor Candy Bingham and other Councillors to make the Northern Beaches even better.

“We have an exciting year ahead with a full program of infrastructure improvements, quality service delivery and world class events to oversee.

“Plus some projects that will be critical for the future of our area like the release of our draft blueprint for the next 20 years and our strategy to protect and enhance our environment now and into the future.

“I’d also like to acknowledge and thank Councillor Heins for her incredible commitment to the role of Deputy Mayor over the last twelve months.

“There are few people like Sue - so dedicated to making a difference in their community. She puts in hours and hours every week for residents, local businesses and community based projects such as with the Manly Warringah Women’s Resource Centre she is personally involved in. Council and the community are very lucky to have her.”
