This September Northern Beaches Council will commence construction of 1.7km of new pathways and 12 improved crossings for people walking and bike riding as part of the Frenchs Forest Active Transport Network.

The Network will see the construction and improvement of a 2.5m-3m wide shared-user path along Blackbutts Road and Kambora Avenue, connecting Lionel Watts Reserve to Prahran Avenue. As well as improved access to key destinations including Glen Street Theatre and Library, Glenrose Village, Frenchs Forest Showground, and Lionel Watts Reserve, there will be enhanced walking and cycling connections to Mimosa Public School, Davidson High School, and Wakehurst Public School.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins was pleased the project would bring long-term benefits for residents and visitors. “The Frenchs Forest Active Transport Network is a fantastic step forward in making our neighbourhoods more connected, sustainable, and active for people of all ages and abilities”

“We know our community is passionate about having safe, accessible options for walking and bike riding. This project not only supports healthier lifestyles but also encourages people to try other sustainable travel options reducing local congestion and emissions.”

“With grant funding from the NSW Government Council is building a safer, greener, and more vibrant future for Frenchs Forest and beyond.” Mayor Heins said.

Some exotic trees will be removed as part of the works but they will be replaced, and additional locally native trees will also be planted to better support the local ecosystem and substantially increase the overall canopy in the area.

The Frenchs Forest Active Transport Network construction is scheduled to be complete in December 2025 (weather permitting). Updates, including traffic impacts and milestones about the project can be found on the Northern Beaches Council Your Say page.
