Dee Why Library will be a more welcoming and inviting destination for children, with Northern Beaches Council carrying out an upgrade of the children’s spaces.
Council Deputy General Manager Helen Lever said that after 51 years, it was time for Dee Why Library to better accommodate children.

“We know that children are some of the most voracious consumers of our library services and for parents and children the library is one of the early formative destinations. We want Dee Why Library to reflect that importance and over the coming months there will be a number of great changes.”

The children’s area will be relocated to the northern part of the Library next to the counters and will undergo a refurbishment.

“This space will be redesigned to make use of the natural sunlight and the lush bush surrounding the Library for children to learn, grow and reflect,” Ms Lever said.

“It will be purpose-built to deliver interactive programs like Story Time and Rhyme Time and offer spaces for quiet reading as well as social interactions. Colourful and accessible furniture will encourage creativity and energy.”

Access is being improved for parents with prams and modern acoustic panels will assist with reduction of noise.

The large print area will move to the ramp with the rest of the collection, and book shelves lining the windows will be removed for maximum natural sunlight.

The project is due to be completed in April and Library users are being thanked for their patience during the upgrade.
