Youth services on the Northern Beaches have received a major boost with the opening of the new PCYC in Dee Why – the first on the Northern Beaches. And to help celebrate there will be free parking for a month.

Northern Beaches Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said the brand new, $26 million facility on the Kingsway opposite Council’s Civic Centre would meet the needs of local young people as well as providing much-needed additional car parking.

“The community has made it clear that it needs and wants safe, welcoming spaces, facilities and programs for our young people and I am extremely proud of what we have delivered.

“Council has built this PCYC to deliver more social, sporting, cultural and recreational activities for all Northern Beaches young people, as well as to provide a larger integrated carpark that benefits the whole community with its proximity to busy transport routes.

“This cutting edge facility, coupled with the strong support network of police and youth professionals, will benefit the Northern Beaches now and for future generations to come,” Mr Persson said.

Mr Persson said that to encourage residents to inspect the new facility and as a gesture of goodwill to the local community, which has endured parking and traffic restrictions during construction, Council will be providing free parking from 29 July to 11 August.

The facility was unveiled on 29 June and is now open to the public.

The PCYC facility boasts two multi-purpose indoor courts, changing facilities, a youth space, function rooms, café and office space. It is open to young people aged 12-24.

The 348 space car park will provide additional parking for Dee Why including 120 commuter parking spaces associated with the new B-Line bus service.

Transport for NSW has contributed approximately $4 million towards the parking spaces for B-Line commuters.
