Manly Art Gallery & Museum and the Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society are inviting expressions of interest from local artists to produce new works in response to the theme ‘land’, for their seventh biannual exhibition.

Senior Curator Katherine Roberts said the exhibition is open to artists working in all media, including digital media, photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, sculpture, glass and ceramics.

“We anticipate a dynamic exhibition of works across a diverse range of media.

“The theme will touch on landscape, headland, inland, wasteland, landfill, landmine, landfall, landing, homeland, island, landform…. wherever inspiration takes the artist.

“Artists are encouraged to explore their own interests in this exhibition as an idea, a metaphor, a noun, a verb, a place, a possibility, a presence, a contested space and as a grand cultural presence within this region and beyond.

“Through art we can explore old meanings and create new ones using various forms of imagination to delve deeper into the meaning of ‘land’ to us,” Ms Roberts said.

The exhibition supports and connects Northern Beaches’ contemporary artists with the Manly Art Gallery & Museum, providing a valuable opportunity to showcase their work and to challenge their art practice through unique responses.

Artists are required to send in digital images (300 dpi and no larger than 2mb each) of two to five existing works, together with the Expression of Interest form; artist concept statement and payment of $20 for members and $30 for non-members, by Monday 1 May 2017. For and EOI form go to www.magam.com.au, email artgallery@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au or call 9976 1419.

The exhibition is open to members of the Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society or artists that live in Sydney’s Northern Beaches region. All works selected for exhibition must have been produced after 19 May 2017.
