A proud moment for the local community unfolded today as friends, family, and community members gathered at 3 Boondah Road, Warriewood to celebrate the official naming of the reserve as Ronda Alterator Reserve.
The ceremony paid tribute to the remarkable legacy of the late Mrs Ronda Alterator OAM and her outstanding contribution to netball and our community.
The occasion marked the culmination of Council’s efforts to honour Mrs Alterator, whose unwavering commitment to encouraging sporting participation, fostering excellence, and building community spirit spanned more than four decades.
Mrs Alterator dedicated over 42 years to the Narrabeen Youth Club Netball (the Club), including 9 years as director. She volunteered in various roles—president, vice president, coach, coordinator, and umpires’ convener—reflecting a lifelong passion for the sport and the people involved in it.
In recognition of her devotion, Mrs Alterator was awarded life membership to the Club, and in 2020 she received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her service to netball.
Her influence reached far beyond sport. Mrs Alterator volunteered on local P&C committees, raising vital funds for schools, as well as volunteering in senior citizen programs, demonstrating a generous spirit and deep commitment to the community as a whole.
During the ceremony, the Mayor and family and Club representatives shared moving words about Mrs Alterator’s lasting impact, highlighting the significance of the naming of the reserve as a place for future generations to gather, play and celebrate community achievements.
Members of the the Club, along with Mrs Alterator’s family and friends, were present as new signs bearing her name were unveiled.
The Ronda Alterator Reserve stands as a lasting testament to a life dedicated to service, leadership and community spirit.
