The presents are unwrapped, bellies fit to burst and the tree’s ready to come down - it’s time to kick back and let summer begin.
But before you chuck out those leftovers, read this quick guide to help you bin it right after Christmas.
Real Christmas trees
Cut your browning tree into manageable lengths and put it into your lime lidded bin for recycling into mulch and garden products. Remember the bin lid of your bin must close flat.
In a hurry? Drop it off at Kimbriki for free.
And if you plan to go au naturel with your tree next Christmas, sell, give away or donate your synthetic tree to keep it out of landfill.
Polystyrene
Deliveries in polystyrene packaging are good for protection but bad for the environment.
Breaking it down in your red bin means polystyrene crumbs put in landfill can end up in the ocean. Instead recycle intact and dry blocks for safe disposal at one of our monthly polystyrene drop off events.
Paper, plastic and glass
From paper wrapping to cardboard and all manner of plastic and glass containers, we’re some of the best recyclers in NSW. But with more unusual items at this time of year, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Why not do a quick refresh of what can go in your household yellow and blue bins to keep our recycling rates high?
Broken glass or mirrored baubles or decorations cannot be recycled. Instead wrap in paper or cardboard and put in your red bin.
Please don't overfill your bins and ensure the lids close flat; overflowing waste can be dangerous and flow from your street, drains straight to our beautiful beaches and waterways. Did you know that you can take excess household blue and yellow lidded bin recycling to Kimbriki and offload it for free?
Take 5 and do a quick refresh of what goes in each bin by visiting our website. Your usual household waste collections will continue throughout the holiday period.
You can also find information on our website about how and where to recycle items you no longer want or about free bulky goods collections to help your get rid of end of life items.
