Resonant works come to light in ceramics show at Manly Art Gallery & Museum

Wild ceramics created by graduates of the 2022 Advanced Diploma of Ceramics at Northern Beaches TAFE will be on display from 21 October – 4 December at Manly Art Gallery & Museum (MAG&M).

Graduate artists to be featured in the Resonance exhibition are Nicky Cooney, Caressa Gonsalves, Dorine Louwerens, Angela Maryska, Cathy McMichael, Lesley Murray, Anna Weaving, and Lisa Wiley Strong. Each artist has drawn on memories, losses, and inspirations in their life stories and creative journeys to present their fascinating, new works.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said MAG&M has long-established links with Northern Beaches TAFE Ceramics, which has provided ceramic education for over 40 years.

“By providing a platform for new and emerging artists working with clay, we are supporting the continuation of a long tradition that flourishes here on the Northern Beaches.

“Council, along with the graduates wish to acknowledge their teachers Janine Brody and Chris James, and all the staff at TAFE, for sharing their abundant knowledge and expertise and for really bringing out the best in their students,” Mayor Regan said.

Manly Art Gallery & Museum Senior Curator Katherine Roberts said the agility of clay as a medium is reflected in the sculptural and functional objects in this diverse show.

“Each artwork shows a strong crystallisation of the artists’ technical, creative and conceptual skills. The graduates are exceptionally talented and their deep and contemplative works reflect the last two years of turmoil and upheaval,” Ms Roberts said.

Resonance opens on 21 October alongside Abstract Realities, and the media, collectors and the public are also offered an opportunity to meet the artists from 3-4pm on Sunday 6 November 2022.
