A satisfaction survey of Northern Beaches' residents has seen the new Council ranked as one of the better performing newly merged councils in New South Wales.

Northern Beaches Council Administrator Dick Persson said the encouraging results came from the first Department of Premier and Cabinet survey into newly established councils in the state.

"It's an honour that residents' survey responses ranked the Northern Beaches Council one of the better new councils in the state for overall performance," Mr Persson said.

"Half of our local residents rated Northern Beaches Council's overall performance as good or very good. While this is a very positive result, Council will continue to strive to deliver excellence to our local residents and improve our services further," he said.

Mr Persson said residents believe the top three performing areas for Northern Beaches Council were waste management, recreational facilities and ease of access to services.

Community satisfaction with a council's overall performance is an agreed measure of success in the Stronger Councils Framework, developed in conjunction with the councils and Department of Premier and Cabinet to guide the implementation of new councils and measure their progress.

JWS Research randomly selected 600 local residents and asked them questions about the performance of each new council as part of a phone survey which included 30% mobile phone surveys.

Mr Persson said the survey was very informative and also identified what residents believe are the top three areas for improvement.

"Residents believe that planning for population growth in the area, decisions made in the interest of the community and providing value for money for rates could all be better," he said.

"Council will work harder to communicate with the community on these important matters and find opportunities where we can improve this result," Mr Persson said.
