Council has unveiled a proposed new plan to upgrade and improve the popular North Narrabeen Reserve.

This follows extensive consultation with the community about current and future uses of the reserve and what improvements they would like to see.

The draft North Narrabeen Reserve Plan of Management proposes an all-weather synthetic sportsfield (subject to environmental assessment), upgrade of field 7 to a senior size lit field, new lighting for the baseball diamonds on field 5, a play and recreation space for children and young people, plus new and improved accessible amenities particularly for people with a disability, families and female athletes.

There are also proposals for upgrades to the other fields, improvements at the Rugby Park (Rat Park), extra tree plantings, landscaping, improvements to roadways, parking and shared paths, and safety improvements at the golf centre.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said North Narrabeen Reserve continues to be an important recreational space for the community.

“North Narrabeen Reserve is one of the Northern Beaches most popular spaces for sport and recreation,” Mayor Heins said.

“It has a long sporting history and association with many sports including AFL, summer soccer, baseball, touch football and rugby union.

“It’s also used by local schools and is home to the popular Friday markets, along with many other community events.

“Whether you’re a member of sporting club or a local resident, the reserve offers a space to exercise, relax, play and explore.

“With exciting improvements in stall, the space will be even better for the whole community to enjoy.”

Proposed works will be undertaken over the next decade and are dependent on funding, environmental assessments and planning approvals.

Council is continuing to improve open spaces and outdoor recreation facilities across the Northern Beaches as part of Let’s Play – the Northern Beaches Open Space and Outdoor Recreation Strategy 2022.

The strategy proposes the construction of new multiuse outdoor courts, bike parks, playgrounds and fitness equipment over the next decade, and ongoing upgrades to existing sportsfields and open spaces.

The community will be invited to view the draft Plan of Management and share their thoughts after the school holidays.
