Northern Beaches Council has responded to concerns raised by Newport businesses and residents about parking arrangements in the Queens Parade West car park and surrounding streets in Newport.

Council Administrator Dick Persson AM has decided to put in place interim changes to improve short term availability while a full review is completed.

"The community has raised this as an issue that needs fixing. I've taken immediate action to improve parking arrangements, and have decided to conduct a full review of parking arrangements in the precinct.

"The area currently experiences high demand for parking and earlier this year Council engaged with the community on some initial changes to parking conditions.

"As a result of that community consultation, Council put in place a number of short-term, high turnover parking spaces to support local businesses," Mr Persson said.

The new study will continue on from this work but include a larger study area which will cover Queens Parade West car park, Trafalgar Park car park, Beaconsfield Street (to Newport Public School), Kaylina Street and Queens Parade West (to Newport Public School).

The community is invited to provide feedback on parking trends and challenges in this area. This feedback will help Council prepare a draft Newport Parking Demand Management Strategy to be released for consultation in early 2017.
