The largest-ever community grants program on the Northern Beaches has awarded 25 not-for-profit local community organisations with more than $530,000 to deliver cultural, social and economic programs that will improve the lives of many in the community.

The Stronger Communities Fund, established by the NSW Government as part of the government's Fit for the Future reform program, has made a total of $1 million available to the newly formed Northern Beaches Council.

"Never before has our community had access to funding of this scale. These grants will make a real difference to our community," said Dick Persson AM, Administrator Northern Beaches Council.

"Successful applicants include organisations in the disability sector, or support initiatives such as arts and culture, environment, sporting, people at risk, and local volunteers.

"The projects will provide social, economic or cultural outcomes for the local community, including assistance and inclusion programs for disadvantaged and disabled residents", said Mr Persson.

There were more than 100 applications for this first round of funding which has provided the 25 successful organisations with grants of up to $50,000 each.

The second round of funding opens in April next year and will offer another $500,000 to more incorporated, not for profit community organisations.
