Did you know there used to be eleven Fisherman’s Huts along Fisherman’s Beach, with the first built in 1870? Or that Long Reef Headland is home to 136 species of birds from all around the world? Or that the fossils of a 2 metre long Labyrinthodont amphibian dated over 200 million year old were found in the region?

In celebration of Our Stories, join us at Fisherman’s Hut for a special program of events celebrating the local heritage of Fisherman’s Beach and Long Reef.

Take a sneak-peak inside the only remaining Fisherman’s Hut, currently used as the meeting house for Long Reef Fishing Club, experience interactive art installations by artists Susan Milne & Greg Stonehouse and a drop-in workshop with Lisa Woolfe.

1.30 – 2.30pm: Aboriginal Heritage Terrestrial Tour

Join Aboriginal Heritage Officer Karen Smith & Council’s Environment Officer - Biodiversity Jillian Macintyre for a Terrestrial Tour exploring the diverse landscape and Aboriginal stories of place. Bookings essential.

3 - 4.30pm: Long Reef Aquatic Reserve Guided Tour

Partake in a guided tour run by Long Reef Aquatic Reserve DPI Fishcare exploring the Long Reef Intertidal Rock Platform, delving deeper into the protected marine plants, animals, and invertebrates that call this area home. Bookings essential.

Our Stories: Yesterday | Today | Tomorrow is a special program of events that offer creative perspectives, exploring the fascinating heritage of the Northern Beaches.

We’ll be celebrating the diverse local heritage of three special locations, Manly Esplanade, Irrawong Reserve and Long Reef.

Experience the heritage and uniqueness of each location with a range of art installations, family-friendly activities, tours, performances and art-making workshops.

If you have a special story about taking the merry-go-round at the Manly Pier, fishing at Long Reef or an understanding of what a special place Irrawong Reserve is, come along and enjoy these free events with your family and other locals.
