Sunday, 1 November 2020 - 10:00am to 2:00pm

Dan Smailes is a local Native Bee expert, and runs Sydney Native Bees. He is a true indigenous biodiversity advocate. Since discovering the essential link between native plant and endemic pollinator, Dan has solely focused his study on the essential role of native bees in Sydney’s suburban and industrialised environment. Through his recent contribution at Permaculture Northern Beaches and collaboration with Wildthings NSW, he has developed a unique understanding of ‘our’ Tetragonula Carbonaria colony behaviour, seasonal instinct and social patterns endemic to this region.

In this workshop Dan will tell us all about:

  • the different types of Native Bees and the vital work they do in pollinating plants in our gardens
  • how to take care of them
  • how to split the hive each year
  • how to collect the honey they produce
