As the second in our 2026 series of collection exhibitions, this show invites you to look up and experience the night sky through art. It celebrates the historic moment on 25 June 2024, when Palm Beach Headland was named Australia’s first Urban Night Sky Place by DarkSky International.

Drawn from MAG&M’s ceramics, art, and photography collections, the exhibition features works that capture the wonder of stars, the beauty of darkness, and the unique character of our coastal landscape. Artists include Patrick Carroll, Tanya Crothers, Angus Fisher, Warren Langley, Wendy Sharpe, and Gary Shinfield.

Created in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the designation of Palm Beach Headland spans Governor Phillip Park and Barrenjoey Headland. Surrounded by ocean, this spectacular site offers some of the best stargazing in the region. The recognition not only shines a spotlight on this iconic place but also sets a benchmark for Greater Sydney—showing how responsible lighting can balance community needs and the protection of our night sky.
