Every Tuesday members of our community gather at Avalon Recreational Centre to sew reusable bags from donated materials for our Avalon Boomerang Bags bag share initiative. The handmade or repurposed bags are then placed in boxes around our shopping village for people to borrow if they have forgotten their own shopping bags.
In just two years we have prevented up to 1,500,000 single use plastic bags from entering the system, spread awareness about the plastic pollution problem facing our oceans and wildlife, made friends and had fun.
So join us between 11.30am -3.30pm on Tuesdays. If you can't sew we can teach you, and there are always plenty of other ways to help. Everyone is welcome.
