Mr Batten travelled widely and trained at the National Art School or ESTC. He also was a member of the Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society and a former member of the Peninsula Art Society. He was a lively character and raconteur and wanted to leave behind an opportunity for a young creative person to continue their studies in the visual arts.
