Northern Beaches Council does not own or manage bike share services. Bike share is run by private companies and regulated by the NSW Government.

How they work

Bike share bicycles are typically e‑bikes made available for short‑term hire at a small cost. Bikes are unlocked usually via a mobile app and can be used for short trips or commuting.

There is currently one dockless bike share service operating on the Northern Beaches. Bikes are free‑floating and do not need to be returned to a docking station. They can be ridden anywhere a normal bicycle can be ridden within the approved service area. The motor will not operate outside the service zone.

Parking may be limited to designated locations shown in the operator’s app.

All share bikes display the operator’s contact details on a sticker on the bike.

Reporting issues and complaints

Report bikes that are damaged, incorrectly parked or causing a hazard directly to the operator.

Council’s role

Council supports cycling as a sustainable and convenient way to get around.

Operators must comply with the Council's Shared Transport Policy.

Council is responsible for the Northern Beaches Transport Strategy 2038: MOVE.

Guidelines for parking

Always check the app to follow parking rules. Operators may issue fines or suspend access if bikes are parked incorrectly.

  • Please park responsibly:
  • Keep footpaths, driveways and entrances clear
  • Leave space for people walking, using prams or mobility aids
  • Park near bike racks where possible
  • If a bike is blocking the way, carefully move it or contact the operator

Responsible riding

It’s the law to wear a helmet when riding any bicycle. If a bike does not have a helmet, report it to the operator. 

Always follow NSW road rules. NSW Police enforce these rules and may issue penalties.
