The extraordinary true story of the First Fleet girl who became First Lady of the colony.

Writer Jessica North, says, ‘I first encountered Esther in a small paragraph in a book about women in Australian History. It said she had been a convict on the First Fleet and had later become First Lady of NSW. I thought surely that couldn't be true or I'd have heard about her.

Over ten years, I researched through hundreds of books, letters, maps and articles relating to the early colony, including the engaging journals written by the British officers and the authoritative volumes of the Historical Records of NSW. Slowly but surely I was able to fill in many of the gaps and build Esther's world around her, as well as make some exciting new discoveries.

It's time more people knew about this inspiring woman.'
