Northern Beaches Council is throwing its support behind the campaign to prevent violence against women by seeking accreditation as a White Ribbon Workplace.
Marking the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women, Council staff took the White Ribbon oath and committed to reviewing Council’s culture, policies and approach to ensure it contributes to ending violence against women.
One in three women experience physical and/or sexual violence by someone known to them and one in five women experience harassment within the workplace and it will take a whole community effort to turn these statistics around.
By becoming a White Ribbon Accredited Workplace, Northern Beaches Council commit to creating and maintaining a strong culture of respect and a zero tolerance for violence of any kind.
Council will join some 200 other Australian organisations and just nine other councils accredited nationally.
