As we celebrate International Day of People with a Disability, a bold new storytelling project is inviting people with disability to share stories of their life and experiences on the Northern Beaches.
The project Stories of the Northern Beaches will showcase contemporary experiences and insights for the Local History Collections, a collection of past and present stories of Northern Beaches people and culture.
Selected stories will be recorded in collaboration with the Local Studies team and shared with the wider community.
The project aims to smash down stereotypes of what life is like for individuals who live with disability. It’s hoped that by showcasing their stories, those featured will help build understanding, consideration and empathy amongst their neighbours, peers and wider community.
To submit an expression of interest visit our website and tell us about you and the story you want to share. You can also collect and submit a paper version from one of our Customer Service Centres and Libraries. Submissions close Sunday 1 February 2026.
Submissions will be accepted in video, audio, or written formats. For assistance with your submission or to find out more, please contact Liz Dwyer on 02 8495 5104 or disability@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au
