You know the saying, ‘When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance’. Well after the last couple of years our local businesses have had, we would love to see more happy dances to finish 2021.

You can easily help too. Just do your Christmas gift and food shopping in one or more of our small businesses on the Northern Beaches. They’ll love you for it!

So how can you shop local?

  • Buy products made on the Northern Beaches
  • Buy from locally owned shops
  • Choose vouchers for local experiences
  • Shop in our local villages
  • Make festive meals from local ingredients
  • Celebrate locally and make sure you turn up for bookings

And remember if you love a local product, store or café/restaurant then give them a little gift – write them a good review and share, tag and like them on social media. This doesn’t cost you a cent but is a big deal for our small businesses.

Not that you needed any more enticing, but we’ve made our local villages more festive and fun, so you’ll want to hang around a little longer! Christmas decorations are bringing a little festive magic to our villages across the Beaches with fairy lights, garlands and pole flags.

What’s on in our villages

Freshwater Village is getting into the spirit with #FestiveFreshie kicking off on Wednesday 1 December and running until Tuesday 7 December. The village has been completely revitalised with more than 10 new businesses recently opening on the main street so it’s a great opportunity to check off your Chrissy shopping list while supporting new and established businesses.

You’ll find exclusive offers for customers during the festive shopping event and on Saturday 4 December there will be family entertainment and live music to enjoy.

Fairlight Village will be hosting Fairlight Fridays, a late night shopping event where the village will come alive on Friday 10 and Friday 17 December. Listen to live music while picking out unique gifts and when you’ve built up an appetite try out new evening menus from your local favourites.

Don’t miss the Artist and Maker’s hub at Mona Vale Creative Pop-up. You’ll find unique, locally made gifts, including art, leather goods, ceramics, limited edition prints, jewellery, candles and locally printed t-shirts.

And watch this space for musicians serenading your shopping trip with your favourite Chrissy carols in Newport and Forestville.

For businesses who want to get involved in our Shop Local campaign, we’re distributing window decals and social media assets. If you’re a local business and would like to request these materials, please email
