The Northern Beaches community has proudly welcomed 578 new Australian citizens as part of citizenship ceremonies held this week.
Citizens from more than 68 countries, from Andorra to Zimbabwe, were officially welcomed at 3 ceremonies held at Glen Street Theatre on Monday 31 August and presided over by Deputy Mayor Candy Bingham.
To mark the occasion, new citizens were gifted a little slice of Australia with native plants Baeckea Imbricata and Kunzea Ambigua. The plants were grown by Council’s Bushcare volunteers at Manly Dam, with commemorative stickers applied by the Bushlink community group.
Theo Murphy, local Forestville Scout, was in attendance to earn his Citizenship Patrol Badge by handing out plants to new citizens.
Achieving Australian citizenship is a significant milestone, marking the final step in a person’s migration journey. Our newest citizens bring with them a rich diversity of cultures, experiences, skills and perspectives that help shape our vibrant and inclusive Northern Beaches community.
Council holds 10 to 12 citizenship ceremonies each year on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs. These occasions provide a proud and memorable opportunity to welcome our newest citizens.
Congratulations to our newest Australian citizens!
