The community centre at Beacon Hill War Memorial Hall is set to continue serving the community for decades to come after an extensive renovation.
The building improvements give the indoor spaces more light and fresh air thanks to new windows and ventilation improvements and our visitors will be cooler in summer and warmer in winter thanks to an upgraded heating and cooling system.
Before the renovation, the old building was showing signs of concrete cancer, had leaks, wasn’t accessible for all and was generally out of step with modern public buildings.
The new roof, air conditioning system, windows, timber flooring, water efficiency measures, accessible toilets and ramps to the main entrance have brought this building into 2020. Along with an updated foyer with new glazing and entry façade, a refurbished office, new awnings, painting and some gorgeous landscaping – this building has a new lease on life.
The well-utilised building on Willandra Road has already welcomed back students and teachers from Beacon Hill Community Kindergarten and will soon welcome back Futsal, who have been playing at the Centre for more than 30 years.
“We’ve been here for so long, we’ve seen the building age and been through a few smaller renovations,” said Northern Beaches and NSW Futsal Association President, Mario Mesite.
“The magnificent new sprung timber floors in the main hall will be a dream to play on and we can’t wait to start playing again.”
The Community Centre is also welcoming new users, with Pickleball matches to be played in the hall on Thursday nights. The sport, which is a mix of tennis and badminton, and played indoors, is gaining popularity with young and old alike.
“This is a sport for everyone,” said Northern Beaches Pickleball Association President, John Fuller. “We are excited to play at Beacon Hill. We are a growing sport and these will be the first courts on the Beaches to be marked specifically for Pickleball.”
Ballet classes will also be returning to the Centre. Check the facilities and availability here.
