The Dee Why fireworks are cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
Council’s specialist contractors advise that the predicted large swells and very high winds make it unsafe for the barge fireworks to operate tonight. This comes following the cancellation of the Bayview fireworks yesterday due to the fire risk. At this stage, Manly will proceed with 9pm fireworks.
We know this comes as a disappointment for some which is why we waited until the 11th hour to continue to monitor the impact of the weather conditions. The risk assessment undertaken by the barge operators recommends that the fireworks off Dee Why beach do not go ahead and deem it unsafe.
Community safety is our top priority and we encourage people to continue to check the weather updates throughout today with high temperatures and strong winds forecast. Visit Bureau of Meteorology and RFS for updates.
Stay safe and have a happy New Year.
